I just learned William Gibson is blogging (kind of) again.
About a month ago I read Pattern Recognition, set in a near approximation of present times. It focuses on a woman who evaluates corporate logos for a living and becomes embroiled in a hunt for the unknown creator of a remarkable underground internet movie being released one clip at a time. As with other Gibson books it crosses international and technological borders. He's just released Spook Country which I haven't read yet but shares some of the same themes and characters as Pattern Recognition.
Anyone who designs software or any technology ought to read Gibson's books because his words and imagination open up new thoughts and feelings on so many levels. Pattern Recognition is a good place to start, more accessible than some of his previous works which are mostly set in a complex cyber future.
